Since the first day of the February 6 earthquakes, we have engaged in impactful project collaborations with national and international civil society organizations that are experts in their respective fields.
Container Cities
Two months following the February 6, 2023, earthquakes, Rönesans Holding launched container cities in Malatya and Adıyaman, providing new tiny houses for over 10,000 earthquake survivors. These container cities were explicitly designed to be friendly and accommodating for women, youth, and children. In Malatya Yaşam Kent, which opened its doors in April 2023 with a total of 1,534 containers, 19 social areas have been established. As of 2024, Malatya Yaşam Kent is home to 5,500 people, 30% of whom are children and 35% are women.
Social areas in Malatya Yaşam Kent offer services from various organizations, including UNICEF, Purple Roof (Mor Çatı), the Tohum Autism Foundation, the Educational Volunteers Foundation of Türkiye (TEGV), the Habitat Association, the Mother Earth Women's Cooperative, the Malatya Metropolitan Municipality, various Public Education Centers, the Yeşilyurt District Health Directorate, the Provincial Directorate of Culture, The Republic of Türkiye's Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Provincial Directorate of Health.
Rönesans Holding and UNICEF have collaborated to provide long-term and comprehensive programs for children and women in social spaces that offer a wide range of valuable services. These include psychosocial support, as well as games, art, and sports-related recreational activities. The social spaces also provide newborn care for new mothers and special education areas for individuals with autism.
KODA
The Village Schools Transformation Network (KODA) has been operational since 2016. It aims to provide children in villages with access to high-quality education opportunities. In the rural neighborhoods and villages most affected by the February 6 earthquakes, Rönesans Holding launched a 12-week project in collaboration with KODA in Adıyaman. This initiative, designed to accelerate the return-to-school process for children and their families while offering academic-psychological support, reached nearly 500 children and their families.
UCİM
Following the February 6 earthquakes, we took decisive action in collaboration with UCİM, which operates against child abuse and protect children's rights. On February 10, 2023, at our Adana City Hospital Project, we supported unaccompanied children rescued from earthquake-affected areas. A volunteer team of psychologists set out to provide psychological first aid and establish post-trauma support mechanisms. This team worked alongside the hospital's doctors, nurses, and social service professionals to carry out their critical work within the hospital.
UNICEF
UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, is dedicated to saving, protecting, and developing every child, particularly those in the most challenging predicaments. We fully support UNICEF in developing the women- and child-friendly social spaces of Malatya Yaşam Kent, which represents an ideal social architecture standard. This collaboration enables the expansion of psychosocial services in safe spaces for children, youth, and women, aiming to create long-term solutions that improve the lives of earthquake-affected children and their families.
Substantial efforts are made within the scope of this partnership in various areas, including psychosocial support, healing through games and art, enhancing mental and physical strength through sports, newborn care for new mothers, and special education for individuals with autism. While implementing long-term and comprehensive programs for children, approximately 1,600 women received nearly 5,000 hours of mental health and psychosocial support between June 2023 and February 2024.
