Rönesans Holding, one of Europe’s leading engineerig, project development and construction group, has won an International CSR Excellence Award in the category of Community Commitment for its response to the twin earthquakes of February 6th 2023 in Türkiye.
When the 7.7 and 7.6 earthquake centred in Kahramanmaraş / Türkiye hit, Erman Ilıcak, founder of Rönesans, and İpek Ilıcak Kayaalp, Chair of the Board of Directors, Rönesans Holding, formed a crisis group and developed the "Rönesans Post-Disaster Support Programs". Through these efforts, Rönesans engaged in partnerships with institutions such as UNICEF, UNFPA, and KODA, as well as civil society organizations and volunteers, making its efforts more impactful.
As part of its Post Disaster Support Programs, Rönesans Holding promptly built container cities in the region. Focused on the well-being of society's most vulnerable, especially women, children, and young people, Rönesans designed 'tiny houses' and swiftly installed temporary living spaces in Malatya and Adıyaman for 10,000 earthquake victims. In Malatya Yaşam Kent—one of its container cities—social facilities provided safe spaces where the vulnerable could receive social and psychological support, significantly improving their well-being. Collaboration with UNICEF has resulted in over 5,000 hours of psychosocial support for 1,600 women in Malatya Yaşam Kent, along with ongoing educational, health, and protective services.
In Adıyaman, a city severely impacted by the February 6 earthquakes, Rönesans and KODA initiated the "Where Did We Leave Off in Education in Villages?" project. This project aims to deliver academic and psychosocial support to children in the most affected villages and rural areas, while also providing training for their parents. Part of the Rural Schools Transformation Network (KODA) initiative, it focuses on enhancing the social-emotional learning and school readiness of children post-disaster. The project reach more than 500 children and their families. Over 190 mothers and 790 children have benefited from child protection and gender-based violence preventive services. The project reached over 2,050 young people through the adolescent development and participation programme and 1,858 children through early childhood education activities.
In early 2024, Rönesans Holding took another step forward in developing programmes that support women. Rönesans extended its collaborations throughout 2024, collaborating with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The collaboration supports the ‘safe spaces’ in the earthquake-affected provinces of Malatya and Kahramanmaraş with UNFPA, for women and girls.
