Rönesans Holding's 2023 Sustainability Report highlights the company's sustainability performance, strategic goals, and human-focused social activities. Key achievements include a commitment to carbon neutrality by 2040 and significant advancements in renewable energy and ESG ratings.

Rönesans Holding 2023 Sustainability Report Published!

Rönesans Holding has published its Sustainability Report, which includes details of its 2023 sustainability performance and strategy, management approach, as well as human-focused social activities.

“We will advance our work to combat climate change."

In the report, İpek Ilıcak Kayaalp, Chair of the Board of Directors of Rönesans Holding, evaluated the company's 2024 sustainability goals: " As Rönesans, we restructured our sustainability focused organization and rearranged our governance systems in 2023. We have strengthened the staff of both our Holding and our group companies with professionals who are experts in their fields. As a result of the comprehensive work of our Sustainability Committee, we determined our long-term goals. We aim to be a carbon net zero company in 2040, to use 100% renewable energy and to ensure 50% of our Board Members are women."

Additionally, İpek Ilıcak Kayaalp stated: " In 2024, we will closely monitor the sustainability performance of all our group companies, evaluate it with company management, and work on different sustainability strategies specific to our companies. This year, we aim to have our sustainability practices evaluated by an independent organization by performing an ESG risk assessment for Rönesans Holding. We will also advance our work to combat climate change.”

Natural Capital and Environmental Impact

In its global operations, Rönesans Holding emphasises:

  • Providing environmentally friendly features through the principles of sustainable development and continuous improvement,
  • Minimising its carbon footprint.

Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Targets

  • 2,000 MW installed capacity by the end of 2028
  • 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2022 levels by 2030
  • 40% reduction in energy intensity by 2030
  • Carbon Net Zero by 2040
  • 80% of buildings to receive LEED/BREEAM In-USE green building certification by 2040

Biodiversity and Ecological Impacts

  • Strategies and operations focused on preserving biodiversity are implemented with the aim of ensuring the continuity of nature. 
  • Projects are initiated with the aim of developing and fully implementing a biodiversity management plan by 2025 to protect and support biodiversity.

Water and Wastewater Management

  • The conservation and sustainable use of water resources are prioritised. 
  • The design and implementation of green building projects extend beyond efficient water use by integrating grey, blue, and green water footprint components, thereby contributing to the reduction of consumers' overall water footprint.
  • The goal is to reduce water consumption by 40% compared to 2022 levels by the end of 2030.

Energy Management and Renewable Energy

  • Investments in the renewable energy sector contribute to Türkiye's green transformation goals. 
  • The target is to establish facilities with 2,000 MW installed capacity through renewable energy investments by the end of 2028.

Circular Economy and Waste Management

  • The zero-waste strategy is implemented under the 'Zero Waste Certificate' in 3 central offices, 6 city hospital operations, 6 hydroelectric power plants, and 12 shopping centres. 
  • The goal is to reduce the ratio of plastic waste to total waste by 40% compared to 2022 levels by the end of 2030.
