Jonas, a new icon for Amsterdam's IJburg Bay, is a consciously sustainable building that feels like a hotel. The building plan consists of eight storeys of approximately 25 metres high, 140 metres long and 35 metres wide. More than 273 flats will be housed on this harbour island and will also occupy a central location on the IJburg Bay.
The Jonas project has sustainability in its DNA. A healthy living environment, sustainable use of materials and energy efficiency are the basis for the design, with two materials in the lead: wood and sustainable concrete. The responsibly harvested FSC wood has a low impact on the environment. Environmentally friendly cement has also been chosen, reducing the environmental impact of the concrete parts by more than 30%. Jonas will be one of the first residential buildings in the Netherlands to be delivered with a BREEAM-outstanding certificate in 2022.
