Rönesans Enerji Launches Its First Battery Investment
Operating through a partnership between Rönesans Holding and TotalEnergies, and continuing its investments in line with its goal of becoming one of Türkiye’s top three green energy companies, Rönesans Enerji is launching its first energy storage investment. As part of its collaboration with Alarko Gotion Green Enerji, Rönesans Enerji has signed an agreement to supply a battery energy storage system (BESS) for the Sibel wind power plant.Strengthening its renewable energy portfolio through diversification, Rönesans Enerji aims to make its generation processes more flexible, efficient and predictable. The battery system to be installed at the 88 MW Sibel wind power plant in İzmir is expected to reduce imbalance costs arising from wind generation's inherent variability. This investment will enable a more flexible and controllable generation profile, allowing Rönesans Enerji to manage its aggregation portfolio more effectively, predictably and optimally.
With the commissioning of the energy storage system, Rönesans Enerji aims to optimise revenues by leveraging market price fluctuations, reduce production losses due to curtailment and imbalance costs, and enhance overall portfolio profitability and operational efficiency. This step represents a strong example of a next-generation energy management approach that enables renewable energy generation to be better aligned with and more effectively managed in response to market conditions.
THE SHARE OF ENERGY STORAGE INVESTMENTS WITHIN THE PORTFOLIO WILL INCREASE
Emre Hatem, President of the Energy Group at Rönesans Holding, stated that investments in energy storage will account for a larger share of the portfolio in the coming period:“Over the next five years, our priority will be energy storage investments. Increasing capacity is critical for us. In this context, we will continue our investments in clean and renewable energy. At the same time, we will maintain our investments in turbine refurbishment. Storage-integrated wind and solar projects are among our key focus areas. We will also continue our investments in hybrid power plants. During this process, we are focusing on digitalisation and AI-supported maintenance and operational solutions. Our aim is to achieve greater, more efficient and more flexible generation from the same infrastructure. As of today, our installed capacity stands at 577 MW. We have increased our installed capacity by 3.5 times over the past two years.
Our project portfolio has reached 1,400 MW, including projects under development and construction. We aim to reach 1,000 MW of installed capacity by 2027 and 2,000 MW by 2028. Over the next two years, our investments will primarily focus on wind, solar, storage-integrated and flexible generation projects. We aim to combine reliable energy with flexible generation solutions to deliver integrated energy production.”
This investment stands out as a key step in Rönesans Enerji’s strategy to transform its energy production into a more integrated and flexible structure supported by advanced technological solutions.
