Rönesans Volunteers Celebrate 23 April with Children in the Earthquake Zone.
Rönesans Holding and the Rönesans Education Foundation have been celebrating 23 April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day with children in earthquake-affected regions for the past two years Hundreds of dedicated volunteers started working in the region immediately after the 6 February earthquakes and continue to provide support to this day. This year, once again, children had fun in playgrounds, had their faces painted, and played joyfully during the 23 April Festival held at Malatya Yaşam Kent.
İpek Ilıcak Kayaalp, Chair of the Board of Directors at Rönesans Holding, said:
“Immediately following the 6 February earthquakes, we established living spaces for over 10,000 people in Malatya and Adıyaman. With the social support areas we created, these living spaces have become a model for the region.
Women comprise 35% of the population, and children comprise 30% of those living in these areas. Considering their needs, we launched a partnership with UNICEF Türkiye in March 2023 at Malatya Yaşam Kent. To date, we have directly supported more than 11,600 children, young people and women.
We have provided early childhood education, adolescent development and participation programmes to nearly 4,000 children and young people. We have delivered child protection and gender-based violence prevention services to over 260 mothers and more than 970 children. We have supported 887 mothers and 5,506 children with protective services through mobile activities.
For the past two years, we have been organising this event for children with the support of our volunteers on 23 April, National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. Each year, we witness how uplifting and healing it is for all of us to spend time together. We are truly grateful to everyone who contributed.”
