İpek Ilıcak Kayaalp announced Rönesans' new collaboration with UNFPA for women and children in the earthquake region
İpek Ilıcak Kayaalp announced that Rönesans expanded its focus on the impact of Türkiye earthquakes on women and children through a new collaboration with UNFPALeading Turkish business extends partnerships with international organisations to support those most affected by devastating 2023 Turkiye earthquakes
Rönesans Holding, one of Europe’s leading contracting and investment companies headquartered in Ankara, Türkiye, is extending its support for women impacted by last year’s Türkiye earthquakes, as part of efforts to lead impactful programmes that empower women.
Following the devastating earthquakes that hit Türkiye in February 2023, Rönesans Holding responded to the disaster by promptly constructing container cities in the region. Rönesans designed ‘tiny houses’, with the wellbeing of the most vulnerable members of society in mind, particularly women, children, and young people. These container cities provided multiple secure spaces.
Following the assessment of its first year in the earthquake-affected region, Rönesans Holding took another step forward in developing programmes that support women. Rönesans is now focusing on extending its collaborations throughout 2024, collaborating with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The collaboration will support the ‘safe spaces’ in the earthquake-affected provinces of Malatya and Kahramanmaraş with UNFPA, for women and girls. These Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) support earthquake survivors with crucial health and protection services; including women’s health, pregnancy follow-ups, pre and postnatal care, safe motherhood; gender-based violence prevention and response, including psychosocial support. They also provide maternity and dignity kits to address basic hygiene needs.
İpek Ilıcak Kayaalp, Chair of the Board of Directors of Rönesans Holding, said: “Healing requires both time and support. We care deeply about the women and children, as they feel the impact the most. We will continue our efforts in the region, collaborating with institutions such as UNICEF, UNFPA and KODA, civil society organisations, and the volunteers.”
Since the first day of the earthquakes in 2023, Rönesans Holding has been collaborating with the expert national and international organisations, conducting high-impact projects in the region. Within the two months after the devastating earthquakes, Rönesans Holding created temporary living spaces designed for more than 10,000 people, prioritising the wellbeing of the most vulnerable members of society, especially women, children, and young people.
