The Winners of 5th “Design The Sustainable Future” are announced

The winners of the fifth “Design the Sustainable Future” competition, organized by Rönesans Holding, has been announced. Ece Avcı from Istanbul Technical University has been announced as the winner, which had participants from 35 universities in Turkey. Projects of 15 students were awarded in 10 categories.

Rönesans Holding’s “Design the Sustainable Future” competition took place for the fifth time, providing jobs for more than 75,000 people in 28 countries with contracting, real estate development, healthcare, energy and petrochemicals. Ece Avcı from Istanbul Technical University has been announced as the winner, which had more than 650 participants from 35 universities in Turkey. Projects of 15 students were awarded in 10 categories.

The topic of this year’s “Design the Sustainable Future” competition was “Urban Interaction Center.” The goal of the competition was to re-establish the digital interaction between people thanks to modern technology and combine it with an urban social platform. We’ve reached nearly 3,000 students through seminars in 18 universities.

“Design the Sustainable Future” is a student competition for new ideas that incorporates sustainability, socialization and the development of mixed-use structures with efficient land and resource use in urban areas. Directing the students to develop “sustainable” projects with the “Future Starts Here” slogan in mind, the competition aims to unite various disciplines.

In light of its established “Green Buildings and Sustainability” theme, this year’s topic was “Urban Interaction Center.” Following this theme, mixed architecture, engineering and social projects were assessed during this year’s competition. The projects were evaluated in terms of sustainability, recycling, energy efficiency, urban development, innovative ideas and detailed solutions, advanced production and waste management, visual design and social sustainability. In addition to cash prize, competition winners had the chance to receive an internship and a job interview at Rönesans Holding.

Along with its sustainability competition, Rönesans Holding holds “Sustainability Seminars” across Turkey. Rönesans Holding representatives meet with students across Turkey, from Van to Amasya, Trabzon to Manisa, to share their global knowledge with a sustainable vision, which forms the foundations of the company’s business.

In addition to the Leadership Team of Rönesans Real Estate and Design Managers of Rönesans Turkey’s Construction Group, Prof. Dr. Füsun Demirel from Gazi University, Dr. Nurgün Bayazıt from Istanbul Technical University, Prof. Dr. Ayşin Sev from Mimar Sinan University and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Nuri İlgürel from Yıldız Technical University judged the competition. After the jury’s careful consideration, the winners of the competition are:

1st Place: Ece Avcı, Istanbul Technical University

2nd Place: Nesligül Çevik, Başkent University and Kübra Kara, Abant İzzet Baysal University

3rd Place: Semih Seven and Fatih Eyice, Pamukkale University

Honorable Mention: Ömer Faruk Fidan and Buket Aygen, Yıldız Technical University

RGY Special Award: Ali Karaaslan, Istanbul Kültür University

Urban Development and Assessment Award: Osman Kurt, Eskişehir Technical University

Innovative Idea and Detailed Solution Award: Muhammet Uçar, Yıldız Technical University

Good Practice Award: Erhan Uçuk, Uğur Çelik and Fatma Sarıgöl, Dokuz Eylül University

Visual Design Award: Ayşe Beyza Yıldız, Kocaeli University

Social Sustainability Award: Berk Akgüneş, Istanbul Gelişim University
