Recognized as the most eminent international award program for tall buildings and urban development, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) awards were announced for 2021. Lakhta Center, built by Renaissance Construction in St. Petersburg, Russia, was granted recognition in 4 different categories. Standing at an awe-inspiring 462 meters, the skyscraper was awarded the “Best in Façade Engineering” by the international jury, in addition to winning the special audience prizes of “Best Tall Building in Europe”, “Construction Award” and “Best Tall Building 400+ Meters”.
Lakhta Center granted 4 awards.
The award program consisted of two levels of recognition and involved the competition of over 160 finalists in the virtual finals held on May 18-19 in Chicago. The winners were selected by a jury consisting of leading architects, urban planners, as well as experts in tall-building design, construction and management. The audience consisted of opinion leaders from the industry who were also asked to select their favorites.
Tony Kettle, the architect who developed the Lakhta Center, stated “Lakhta Centre is a truly unique tower, designed and constructed in the most challenging of environments. It is a building that celebrates energy in all of its forms, through the movement evoked in its beautiful organic façade. With its innovative low energy design and elegant spire, it has already become the city landmark for St Petersburg. After being nominated for 5 categories in this prestigious competition, we have won 4 awards, which made us very happy.”
