Rönesans Holding, signed the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles

08 March 2016
Although operating in male-dominated sectors like construction and real estate, by signing the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles, Rönesans Holding reaffirmed its commitment to women’s rights and professional equality.
37th largest international contractor and 10th largest in Europe, Rönesans Holding, having positioned itself as a very well known, reliable and valuable Turkish brand all over the world and with a female employee ratio pretty higher than the industry average, has signed the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP) which are the product of collaboration between UN Global Compact and UN Women.

Thus, Renaissance Holding has committed itself, in particular, to establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality, treat all women and men fairly at work – respect and support human rights and nondiscrimination, promote education, training and professional development for women, promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy, measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality.

WEP signature ceremony was held along with the second Turkish “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” event which has been organized by the UN Global Compact, UN Women and Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative in order to raise awareness about gender equality, on March 8 – Women’s Day, at Borsa Istanbul. The Chairperson of Rönesans Holding Executive Board İpek Ilıcak Kayaalp was among the attendees of the ceremony and gave following comments on the event, “We, as Rönesans Group, believe that we can further improve our business in the markets where we are operating by being a pioneer in sector’s development and evolution with the help of our quality standards, technology, customer focus and satisfaction of our employees. It may be able to reach that dream by capturing sustainable growth but most importantly, by being open to development. We can make it happen only if we could use all the capabilities within our organization and taking a holistic approach for diversities. Besides, as a female holding a leadership position in a male-dominated sector like construction, I believe that

ensuring gender equality and women’s participating in the economic life more actively would be beneficial for the development of our country’s economy as well as the growth of our industry.”

Emphasizing the importance of being able to grow their own leaders for the progress of the institutions, Kayaalp said that they designed a mentoring program which will begin in April for this purpose, and gave the good news that they will start with female employees in the first year. Kayaalp said, “Our female employees at different levels will receive, as menteesm mentoring from the members of the Executive Board. They will benefit from their experiences and follow their footprint.” In the initial stage of the program, 6 mid-level female managers will receive mentoring from top-level leadership including the members of the Executive Board and following that they will mentor 4 women who are less experienced than themselves.

In addition to such projects which target more female employees to serve in senior levels, Rönesans Holding, also supports working mothers. In this respect, female employees are entitled to one day off annually to care for their sick child. Besides that, with the the exemption system, concipated to allow female employees to accompany their children on the first day of school as well as on the half-year and year-end days, it is expected to increase motivation and achieve sustainable success among female employees.

Rönesans Holding, by developing joint projects with the Women’s Work Foundation (Kedev) which is the representative of more than 120 women cooperatives, also supports women’s employment in all sectors of society. Within this scope, primarily to increase the share of women in sustainable production and help small-scale female producers establish sustainable businesses by adopting right business models, cooperation programs are planned through which they can receive consultancy and support from the Rönesans Holding’s professinal staff.
